Matt grew up in rural Nebraska before attending North Dakota State University in 2016. In Fargo, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiological Sciences in 2020. After graduating, Matt began his graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Fall of 2020. There he studied under Eric Weaver designing, creating, and characterizing immune responses to influenza viruses in mouse and swine models. Matt joined the Bierle lab in July 2025 to begin his postdoctoral training. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his partner and their two corgis, watching cooking and home renovation shows, and playing board games. On his own, he enjoys watching sports, fishing, golfing, and just spending time outside, especially during the balmy upper Midwest winters.
